YTA Scholarship Fund

                                             

The Award

Scholarships will be awarded to YorkU and Seneca students each year. The selected student in the given year will receive $1,000. This is a one-time grant to be applied towards tuition, fees, books, supplies and/or equipment required for the courses at the educational institution.


Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicants from undergraduate or college programs must have completed the first year of studies in the program that they are enrolled in
    at York University or Seneca College within the Region of York, or adjacent Regions or areas considered to be within the catchment of
    the YTA
  • Recipient must enrol in a minimum of three full time classes, for which academic units are awarded, during the college or university semester or year for which the scholarship is granted
  • Applicants from a post-degree college program or from advanced degree programs based on the same criteria outline herein are also eligible for consideration.

Application Requirements
  1. Completed YTA | Scholarship Fund Application Form
  2. Two letters of recommendation, including one from a professor in the program of study
  3. Transcripts (photocopy of official transcripts is acceptable)
  4. Cost per unit or course
  5. Copy of current class schedule, if applicable
  6. Copy of letter of acceptance from education institution applicant will attend, or statement explaining acceptance
  7. Brief statement stating educational objectives, career goals, financial need, past and current extracurricular activities (community involvement) and how this scholarship will help you reach your goals.
  8. Interviews may be required of scholarship finalists

Area of Study

Any Major or course of study will be considered, however priority weight will be given in the selection process to traditional courses of study and/or to educational goals that enhance the individual’s career development that is aligned with advancing the interests of the YTA and its members, notably: computing, engineering, mathematics, technology, science, business administration, marketing, or such program that the Screening Committee may determine to be aligned with the interests of the YTA mandate.


Selection Criteria

The Screening Committee will first determine that each application is complete and complies with eligibility requirements. The Screening Committee will include three members of the YTA board, one representative from each of the academic sponsors of the YTA (YorkU and Seneca College) and the Executive Director of the YTA.

Scholarships will be based on personal motivation, educational and career goals, applicability of the course of study, financial need, and extracurricular activities, as well as consider the overall quality of the application and the funds available to the Screening Committee for scholarships.

Additional Information

The YTA reserves the right to use the name and/or photograph of scholarship award recipients in promotional materials designed to increase awareness of the Scholarship Fund, and to soliciting funding or advertise fund raising events for the YTA | Scholarship Fund.
